En referencia a las fronteras entre países sudamericanos, también se realizaron investigaciones sobre el movimiento comercial y poblacional, ciudades de frontera, los acuerdos binacionales de cooperación y control fronterizo, las actividades ilícitas, el intercambio cultural, entre otras. El desarrollo del trabajo se sustenta principalmente en datos estadísticos generados por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística INE a partir de los censos ylos mismos que permitieron ver las condiciones de bienestar social y calidad de vida que ofrecen las urbes fronterizas a los habitantes, que en algunos casos son similares que en ciudades capitales de departamento.
